Hearing Aid Bank of Minnesota

It is estimated that 742,000 Minnesota residents suffer from some level of hearing loss. Currently, few resources are available to low-income, uninsured Minnesotans in need of hearing instruments. Those that exist, tend to have limited geographical coverage and/or restrict access to categories of candidates. Consistent with SHA’s ongoing mission, the Hearing Aid Bank of Minnesota (HAB-MN) will ensure all Minnesotans with hearing loss have access to treatment services and hearing aids that enable functional communication in order to remove barriers to educational, social, emotional and psychological well-being and growth. It is the goal of the HAB-MN to provide financial assistance for hearing aids and hearing care to as many Minnesotans as resources will allow. To receive an application for assistance, please contact us at 651-645-2546, ext. 11.

  • The Hearing Aid Bank of Minnesota is a need-based assistance program – every Minnesotan can qualify for help, regardless of income.
  • Applying for help is free – there is no application fee.
  • Audiologists are not asked to provide free services – they are paid for providing their expert medical care.
  • Based on an applicant's income, they may be asked to contribute all or a portion of the costs for hearing care. The cost is never more than $300 per ear.

  • Studies have linked untreated hearing loss to stress, anger, depression, fatigue, social withdrawal, reduced job performance and impaired memory.
